ECITB Medium Risk Confined Space:
This course provides delegates with a good knowledge of working within a confined space where a hazardous environment is not immediately present, but has the potential to arise. E.g. sludge/sediment disturbance causing gas release or physical change to the environment.
Delegates will be assessed on 2 practical exercises (using 10 minute escape sets) and 2 multiple choice knowledge tests.
Learning Objectives:
- How to prepare to work, enter and exit confined spaces safely
- Prepare and use appropriate respiratory protective equipment (RPE) for working and escape purposes
- Use equipment and tools safely
- Follow procedures and deal with emergencies
- Gain practical skills in a realistic environment
Course Overview
- Understand why we need confined space training and what can go wrong
- Understand confined spaces and identifying what can go wrong
- Become familiar with equipment such as escape sets, gas monitors and harnesses
- Legislation and regulations - what it covers
- Discuss safe working systems including the permit to work and categorizing work space
- Check equipment, implement safe system of work, put monitoring equipment in place, check communication systems, check atmospheric conditions, enter confined space with RPE and emergency evacuation techniques
